Wheels for carpet, free-running.
What to know about wheels for office chairs.
Carpet wheels free running
Are made of very hard plastic so that they slide easily over the carpet, but especially on a wooden floor they make dents and eventually the floor breaks. Furthermore, carpet wheels are free-running, which means that when you use carpet wheels on a hard surface, your chair continues to drive 'endlessly', it shoots across the room.
Wheels for hard floors, semi-braked
The edge of these wheels is made of softer material, so they do not scratch. Often an office chair is always in the same place, so the same place is driven continuously. Particularly with softer woods, such as spruce, wear can still occur. Then it is better to use a mat in addition to these wheels.
These wheels are semi-braked, which means that when you are not sitting on the chair, the wheels run a bit heavier, so that the chair does not shoot through the room. If you sit on the chair, this inhibition is released and the chair drives smoothly. You can also use hard floor castors on carpet, which is only a bit heavy.
